Spanish-speaking destinations have fascinated me for a long time. So for our little pre-Christmas break I was looking for a place that would capture my imagination. "Puerto Rico" had a nice, exotic and tropical ring to it. So through Hotwire we booked a flight -- hotel -- car rental combo with a departure from Buffalo, which is located about two hours from Toronto. Buffalo offers many amazing deals to locations all over the United States, and we picked up a very inexpensive package with a flight to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Our destination for the next 5 nights was Dorado, a small town about 45 minutes west of San Juan. After an uneventful flight through Philadelphia we landed in the middle of the afternoon in San Juan, picked up our rental car and promptly got stuck in a major traffic jam coming out of the capital. Finally, we arrived in Dorado, at the Golden Sands Villas / Club Aquarius (part of the Embassy Suites complex), a condominium resort / vacation club on the north cost of Puerto Rico where we had a spacious one-bedroom apartment, a good home base to explore the island from. |
